I bought this motor used many years ago and it has served me well, but now it needs some minor surgery. I recently removed the prop and discovered the nut is....ughhh....plastic.
Was this done to minimize corrosion, or weight, or something, or were they just trying to get off cheap? 1: Should I replace it with SS or leave it alone? Another surprise was that the pull starter assembly is attached with....ughhh....10mm metric bolts. 2: What's up with that? Why do manufacturers do that?...some metric bolts...some SAE. Pisses me off. 3: Does this motor have removable heads, or the old "milk bottle" style
cylinders. 4: When I pull the primer knob, fuel sprays from a small hole on the side of the square thing from where a little blue pin sticks up. Is this normal, or should I replace whatever's inside of that square thing. 5: Under the flywheel, there's the stator and also there's another pickup that moves when you advance the throttle. What does that do? The plastic ring that holds mine in place is broken. Would that cause my motor to not fire on the lower cylinder? 6: There's a small housing where the water outlet hose attaches to the powerhead. I removed it and there's nothing in there. Should there be a thermostat there?...and finally 7: Do you think the twist-grip throttle/shift setup is about the coolest thing since sliced bread, or what?
Thanks in advance. I'm trying to learn this stuff.
JD
