Lots of sand 1988-88 spl

Bought a 1988 88 spl knowing the last time out the hot horn was on. Removed lower unit, about a cup of sand spread around, and also sand in impeller housing, Removed thermo housing and also packed with sand. Is it time to pull the heads and check or should air gun and hose complete the sand removal process? Motor still has good compression

I'd be inclined to pull the head covers off too. What you find inside the heads could also be inside the block. You may need to pull the cover off the top of the block in order to view the main water galley between the two heads. You could also have sand there. Depends on what you find in the heads.
