I can no longer hear the warning buzzer/horn on the Johnson 115
Any ideas as to where I can find a aux horn.

i sure there is something out there that would work, all you need is for the sender to send the signal to a solenoid switch, or the like. a car horn?

Re: louder warning horn needed, hard of hearing

As Tash & Zeke suggests, any horn would work BUT if a high ampere draw horn is used, there would be some wiring changes made due to the ampere draw.

Have the wires that normally lead to the horn route to the coil portion of a accessory relay instead so that anything that would normally engage the horn would cause the relay's plunger to pull in and have the relay's points make contact instead.

-----------------------------------
(Important)
Now, run a "Proper Size Wire" from a battery 12v source to one of the horn terminals. Run another wire from the remianing horn terminal to one of the relay terminals, and another wire from the remaining relay terminal to ground. DO NOT attempt to use that small gauge wire that is used on the regular small horn. Use wire that would be compatable with this larger horn!
-----------------------------------

When any sensor engagement takes place, this will cause voltage to flow thru the relay which in turn will cause the relay points to close, resulting in voltage passing thru the relay terminals to the horn.

Note that you might want to have the voltage (battery) supply wire fused if it isn't already.

Re: louder warning horn needed, hard of hearing

Thanks guys
I just need an aux overheat horn to blast louder. Can
I just hot wire aux horn off the horn wire side of ignition
switch?

Joe, what amperage do you consider a high amp draw?

Thanks

Might be better to hook it up to a nice big red light.

Just a thought.

Mike..... That small horn is obviously a low ampere draw device. A horn such as a automotive horn would be a higher ampere draw that would melt that skinny TAN wire, hence a wiring change.

You can use a radio shack horn , small red light and a push to test button.
Works great I have done a few of these for hearing inpared friends.

If your hard of hearing you might wanna take someone with, if you can't hear your warning horn, imagine another boaters horn or whistle. Also you might fail to hear motor problems that the warning horn does not detect.

Follow-up
I found a marine aux buzzer, actually buzzes rather then the high
pitched whistle. Problem now is after installing the engine will not
start. I get good therapy trouble shooting so look forward to finding
the problem.
Thanks for suggestions

ps I can hear, just not the high pitched sounds

can always use a 4 pin relay to trigger any sized alarm/light setup.
