Has anyone else done the low carb diet thing? Ive been on it for a week and a half and lost 15# already. 40# to go. Sometimes its hard to figure out what to eat though. I like meat so Im never hungry. Its interesting what you can and cant eat!

Re: Low carb Diet

Hello Lubedude.
I am on it as well. The first 15# were easy, it only took a week for me too.Partly because you do not carry such a full gut.Later it gets a bit tiresome and slower.I still have another 40 to go as well, but I am dying to eat some cookies or pancakes.

Re: Low carb Diet

The wife and I started on Jan 1, our new years resolution.
I've lost maybe 15 pounds, 10 more to go.
Great thing is the 1-2 inches in the belt line I've lost.
I've cheated recently, cookies, ice cream n such.

I mostly eat salads at lunch time, chef salad with meats, etc. Doesnt fill me up but gets the job done. I really try to limit the bread n potatoes as much as I can. I do not drink soda like I use to, more water or ice tea. Alcohol has been really cut down to almost nothing.

We eat much more fish and chicken now, but we will dig into a good steak or burger once a week.

I really miss my pasta.... :(

Re: Low carb Diet

I have to say I miss the carbs, potatoes, rice and pasta, but the biggest thing I miss is the sweets, "Hi,Im a sweetaholic, and my name is LubeDude"!!

My wife is real supportive, she didnt drive me to it either, I made the decision myself. Im just tired of carrying all this weight around, and my knee is going to thank me for it too! Gee, maybe my boat will be faster too, if I ever get it running right again! Hey, Maybe there is a forum somewhere that can help me???

Just kidding, everyone has been great in trying, I just need to do my part now!

http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/

http://forum.lowcarber.org/

http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/

Check these out, I go in for the big weigh in Friday, Ive been doing a beach-ish sorta diet since feb 7, so its coming up on five weeks

I make my own bread now, using vital wheat gluten, wheat bran and a touch of barley flour, if you have a bread machine, its easy, 3/4 c gluten, 1/4 barley and 1 c bran, 2 T yeast, 2 T sugar (gets eaten by the yeast) T Splenda and a t of molly mc butter for salt, I use setting 3, dark crust, oh yeah, 3/4 c tepid water, some recipes throw an egg in, I find its fine without it, I love it toasted. comes out to like 4 carbs a slice and its as healthy and natural as can be

now and then I cheat and have some barley with half and half and butter spray. amazing how much food you get for 1/3 of a cup of dry barley, and its at the bottom of the glycemic index

I also like the Klondike carb counting bars, 7 grams of carbs, Since I keep track of everything on Fitday.com (if you want to know about what you are eating, go there, youll be amazed!) I know when I have the room on the plan to add a bar in there.

Im at 1379 cals so I can have a bar, but maybe ill wait til friday, lol, be good for just another day

amazing how easy this is, i miss certain foods but Im never HUNGRY, well, cept in the morning, I want breakfast now, never used to, lol

Check out those sites, just cause you are doing south beach doesnt mean those low carb plans are useless, they are quite good, just steer clear of the ones that are obvious fat bombs.

speaking of which when you crave potato chips, have a couple pork rinds, they really arent that bad IF YOU USE PORTION CONTROL

cucumber chips are really good too, and virtually a free food, 25 cals and 4 carbs in a six inch cuke, I like to mix some maries blue cheese dressing (1 T)with some 1% cottage cheese (1/2 cup)with some spring mix and a sliced up cuke, when Im living dangerously Ill toss a few grape tomatoes on there, the cheese mix is also good stuffed into some hot cherry peppers

Im working on a low carb pizza dough, Ill keep ya posted on any developments there!

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I did the Atkins and lost a 35 pounds after quitting smoking 4-5 years ago. It is great diet to loose weight on.

However, beware of loosing muscle mass!
And old joint injurys seem to flair up while on the diet.

Re: Low carb Diet

LubeDude,

I was on a low carb diet for about 10 months.

I had my cholestorol down to 79, and my triglycerides are down to 60, but, the doctor has taken me off that diet due to my right kidney, gall blader, and appendix, all shutting down, as by what they say, was directly caused by the low carb diet, which I question, but since going off of the diet, I only gained back about 5#, and everything has started to work again, and I feel really good again, and I haven't felt well for a couple of months now.

I lost a total of 28# on the low carb diet.

The Doctor say's she has another diet she wants me to try, but she wants me to wait at least 6 months, before dieting again.

I still watch what I eat, and try to keep the calories intake at the requirements, but I haven't always been vigilant with that.

Re: Low carb Diet

KKC ... get the south beach diet book, the author, Arthur Agatston is an MD, and is a cardiologist of considerable fame, his Agatston Scale is a standard in the profession ...

he teaches you how to eat GOOD fats, GOOD carbs, Atkins is a good short term plan, but the south beach is the plan for life, it resets your systems sort of like a computer reboot, and the body then can process those good carbs and fats in a more normal fashion. Belly fat goes first, and those numbers will be good and stay good, its a medically sound, medically safe, and totally satisfying way of eating

Im having a tater tonight, but mostly cabbage and a bit o ham

and maybe a beer, I dunno, its been in there since christmas so its not getting any younger, lol

Happy St Paddys fellow micks!

:D :D :D :D

Re: Low carb Diet

I have been on the low carb diet since June of last year. I have lost about 55lbs. The first couple weeks were a pain, but I read through the carb counts and serving sizes of various foods so that I could find foods I could eat enough of to feel satisified.

If you don't have any pick up a couple Atkins books and read the carb count listings in the back as well as th low carb recipes.

I have been doing very low carbs all this tme, it worked well until about two months ago. I think my system has adjusted to my food intake as I havn't lost any weight on my maintained low carb intake in the last two months.

I guess its time to start working out now.

For more advice there is a usenet newsgroup for low carb dieters.

alt.support.diet.low-carb

If you do not haver access to a usenet server you can also access it from google.

Google Groups Low Carb Support Link
