Exact same problem as a previous post -

"Just bought a 1999 boat with Volvo 5.7L. Oil pressure drops to under 10psi at 600 RPM after running WOT (wide open throttle) for a few minutes. Returns to 40psi at 1,000 RPM and 60-70 at high speed. Not the gauge. Only 200 hrs. Got any ideas?"

Oil Pressure gauge (and switch agrees) shows intermittent dropouts at idle after WOT, increasing RPM to 1000 returns oil pressure. Changing oil (to Pennzoil 30W HD) had no effect.

Already ordered new switch and sender, should I drop the pan and replace the oil pump? Any other recommendations?

this is normal for chevy engines. 15w-40 will help this. chevy engines will run for ever with 3 psi at idle. bob
P.S. use a good filter! AC they use a antibleed valve to prevent dry starts.

I would think that oil pressure that low at idle would indicate a problem. Possibly something with the relief valve sticking open or something. My 5.7 alpha one in my boat (1997) will have about 20psi of oil pressure at idle after its been run hard. It has about 40 at anything over 1500 rpm.
