This evening the oil pressure indicated lower than usual and fluctuated at idle rpm. The engine alarm did not sound. After throttling up to put the boat on plane and while cruising, the oil pressure indicated normal to a little above normal. Could this be a sender issue or are there engine problems that need to be investigated?

Re: Low Oil Pressure Indication at Idle

Did you once have good reading? What has changed since last good reading?

First have to find out if pressure is low OR are you getting bad data. Only way to find out which one is to connect pressure gauge to outlet of the block. Could remove the sender port. (However, if acutally low pressure, the oil galley could be blocked).

I will provide you some feedback on the sender.

Make sure your sender has good ground. Sender works on resistance. Pipe dope or tape can effect this. I use the Permatex sealant with copper. Did great for my sender. Make sure connections at sender and gauge are clean.

The sender is not repairable and works on pressure to create resistance. Hope this helps some. I am sure others will chime in. Good luck

Re: Low Oil Pressure Indication at Idle

Thanks. I boated all day today. Oil pressure indications were normal for most of the day. I believe it is a ground or sender issue. I'll post if/when I resolve the problem. The boat ran great and all other engine parameters were completely normal.
