I finally got out today after my transom repair which took most of the season only to figure out I was low rpm and slow. I did change the prop to a 17 pitch from what I believe to be a 17 pitch as well but not 100% on it since I could not find any markings to help me figure it out. At 3k rpm I was going about 20 mph which is not what I expected. I also could only max out at 3800 rpm.
I have a few ideas on what it might be but not sure which to look at first or maybe others too? Okay so my ideas are the prop being wrong pitch, the engine not running right (blown gasket just repaired), throttle linkage since I had to take it out for removing the motor, or maybe something to do with the idle screw since it will not idle properly either without stalling.
