Hi all im in Canada here and i have a Johnson 3hp early 60s small white motor seems i can get my highspeed set very well however i cant get the motor to go lower then the start position without stalling out my low speed needle seems to have a small bend in it and thus looks like it has been ground down as well just slightly im just wondering if
A: this is the issue and
B: if anyone knows of a site or store i can order and have one of these shipped to me threw
As i would like to get this motor running good and have just installed a complete new carb kit.

Re: Low speed needle

The low speed needle could cause the problem you are having. Can you list your model number so we can look up your engine to help you find the needle?

I come up with PN 302991 for the low speed needle. You might check your local dealer, it shows that it is still available. You might also do an on-line search, might find it cheaper.

That site goes all the way back to 1955, good place to look up parts for older engines. You can also order from them, don't know if they ship to canada, but at least you can look up your own parts and then check local dealers or shop on-line.
I have seen several people on here from canada, I am sure if you stick around and do some reading, you will find some people in your part of the world that might direct you to somewhere close that will help you with parts.
There are lots of people here that will help you out. Just keep reading and asking questions, your already hooked, you will learn a lot.

Re: Low speed needle

I'm in Canada and I frequently order parts from the US for my outboard motors and snowmobiles. Ive found that the easiest and most economomical shipping from the US into Canada is the mail. (USPS)
I dont know why, but a lot of US suppliers ship exclusively with UPS and I can tell you from experience that when they ship via UPS into Canada you will get nailed with additional fees above and beyond the actual shipping cost.
Sometimes I contact the supplier before making a purchase to see if they are willing to mail my order and usually it's not a problem. I mention all of this because a slow speed needle will be a very small and inexpensive package to ship in the mail so it's not worth driving anywhere to pick one up assuming you can find one.

I order from marineengine.com pretty regularly for OEM parts that iboats doesn't carry. They ship (at least to the states) in a flat-rate USPS box for $9.95. I stack up the order to fill the box because it is $9.95 no matter what.
