Low water pressure

My 1985 140hp Evinrude V4 only has a bit more than a trickle out of the water pump indicator. How can I get the higher pressure squirt I see in other motors? My overheating alarm sounds if I idle in gear for more than a minute or so. Sometimes if I accelerate, the alarm stops. I think if I had more water pumping through, my heating problems would cease. Any ideas?

My 2 cents.

Impeller in the water pump is shot. Replace complete water pump, purchased as a kit.

If you you keep overheating like that, you'll kill the engine.

Re: Low water pressure

Water pump was just fine. Replaced gasket between power head and exhaust housing. Also replaced gasket between exhaust housing and gearcase. Heating problem solved.
