When i turn the depth finder on it just blinks 0. It never changes when i am in the water. I can set the depth of the alarm and the tone but cannot get a depth reading on gauge. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also have a Hummingbird Wide version Sea Ray edition fish finder with speedo. Cannot get the speedo to give me speed. Does the transducer that's on the back of the boat to the fish finder have to be setting in a certain position in it's bracket or should it be loose and travel freely up and down? Sorry for the two question thread but i can't get either of these working properly.

Re: LOWARANCE 3500 blinking 0.0

When you turn the unit on do you get the normal start up page? May say lowrance and then scroll acrossed the page. If not then could be a dead battery or a bad connection, or the unit itself.

Normally a flashing 0 means you are not getting back any sound echos.
I would first check the voltage to the unit. Is it 12.6 volts or very close to that.
Next make sure the transduces is plugged in and the all the contacts are clean and birght not green.

If that looks good go back to the transducer and make sure it is there and pointed straight down not kicked up in the air.

If it looks normal then take your shoe off and put under the transducer. Can you feel or here the out going pulse?

Is there any growth on the transducer or the hull in front of the transducer?

The bird I know nothing about but most depthfinder with speed use a paddle wheel. The bottom of the paddle wheel need to be below the hull and turn free. Many people put them in on the angle of the hull so the paddle wheel go to one side and rubs on the side making it slow to start because of the drag. Try to make it level and spray with so silcone spray. Turn by and have someone watch the speed.

I do not get the scrolling lowrance when i turn it on. It just goes to 0 when i turn it on. There is nothing on the transducer, and all the wires look good. I will test voltage and see what that says. On the Hummingbird issue it does have the paddle wheel that is mounted to the back bottom of the boat. Is it supposed to move up and down freely? Mine seems like it is supposed to snap down in the harness that the transducer sits in and when snapped down it rides a little below the hull at a angle for water to hit it. I know it was professionally installed when the boat was new so it isn't something that i added on.

I know nothing about birds but my paddle wheel speed sensor has a pin thru the middle of the wheel so it can not move up or down just turn. On mine there is metal magnets in the wheel ends to induce a signal in the pickup. Needs to be flush with the bottom of the hull so the tips of the paddle are below the hull.

On the Lowrance sure hope it is a weak battery or power connection. Most Lowrance units if you disconnedt the transducer they will go into demo mode. I would call Lowrance and see what they say if the power does not fix it. Also most Lowrance units have a internal battery to hold the last setting used. Could someone have pushed the stop scroll.
If Lowrance is no help find your book and Set to factory defaults. Note this may wipe out waypoints on some units.
