Hello everyone,
I recently acquired a 2006 Lowe 1448 Jon boat and it has some corrosion on the bottom side and at the water line. I believe the previous owner stored the boat in the river. Pictures are attached.

The boat is structurally sound and doesn’t have any thin spots to be concerned about at this point. I have plans to make a casting deck and would like to get as much life out of the boat as I can but before I do any work on it I would like to see if anyone has any advice or opinions. The way I see it there are a few scenarios that I could do:

1. Is there a product I can spray or paint on the boat to inhibit further corrosion and then apply fresh primer and paint?
2. Repairing the corrosion by sanding, buffing, adding protectant etc. If this is what you would do what steps, tools and products would you use?
3. Leave it as is and get what life I can out of it before replacing it. As is, how long do you think the boat will last? Will this type of corrosion stop or continue? I fish primarily a small 9.9 hp limit lake so I will not be crashing into waves and when it is not in use it will be dry and stored in my garage on the trailer.

Any advice or experience with this would be appreciated. I can post more pics if needed.

Thanks.

Another thing you might consider is a bead blaster if you have acess to one. Much easier than sanding, then a primer coat then a couple finnish coats...your boat will look like new. !!
