I am putting together a 14ft rig with a heavier wide body jon boat Lowe. The boat weighs 260 pounds without engine or equipment and has a max HP rating of 25. I plan on loading the boat with fishing equipment and two adults.

The propeller I have is a 9.25x7. Is this pitch ok for this application or should I start higher.

Thanks in advance.

I had the exact same hull as you, and I ran it with a Johnson 30HP motor. I know that this is 5HP above the 'max' rating, but it handled nicely, with up to three adults.

Depending on what you want to do with that boat, you may find your rig to be underpowered with only 10 horsepower, and if that is the engine you are going to run with it, I'd recommend going to the lowest pitch available prop. Try it with 7 pitch, and see how it works.

The nice thing about that hull, is that it is very versatile. I ran mine also with an electric motor, and also with a 5HP. If speed isn't overly important, I'm sure the 10HP will be fine, although you may have difficulty getting on plane.
