Need help. I am about to buy a new boat and am looking at the Lowe hp18 and G3 Eagle 180. The lowe comes with either a mercury 115 fourstroke or a 115 optimax pro xs. and the G3 comes with a Yamaha 90 fourstroke. Which boat motor combo should I BUY. By the way looked at both and from looks the Lowe looks like a better quality boat. Thanks for any advice.

I'd lean towards the G3 and Yamaha, since I believe Yamaha owns G3 boats and they've probably done a lot of homework to be sure the boat and motor are perfectly matched and set up for maximum performance. Have you checked out Express Boats and Sea Ark Boats, they both sell boat/motor combination set-ups that are great. It could be that the Sea Ark Boats are really the best/strongest built of this group but you can look and decide. I bought the 1870 Express MV with the Yamaha 90C 2 stroke back in 1999...no problems at all, so far. And again, it all depends on exactly what you want and need, and can afford. Good Luck!:)

I won't be much help, but will just say I don't thing you will go wrong with either. I love my optimax, it's lighter than the 4 strokes, great fuel economy, and little to no 2 stroke smell. My father has a 150 4 stroke yamaha and that's an amazing engine. Cant even tell when the thing is running it's so smooth and quiet. I'd pick the boat that has the features you like best, then take the motor as it comes. They are both pretty great in my opinion.

Caveat - I don't have any experience to say one way or another on the Merc 4 stroke you mentioned.
