I am waiting for my Lowe sea nymph to be ready. It is my first new boat. It has a 40hp yamaha 2 stroke on it, a live well, trolling motor. I up graded to the stainlesssteal prop. I was wondering if anyone has any comments on how the motor and the boat is? I've heard good things from people on the river about the Lowe boats. I've run my Elgin and my 1973 i.o.(mercruzer 165hp 6 cylynder) Like I said this is my first new boat and was wondering what people think of the lowe and yamaha?

thanks
bbtruck
" Take a kid fishing and you'll have the best fishing trip of your life!"

bb,

I owned and loved a Lowe 1730 V. It was a aluminum bowrider/fishing rig with a 90 Johnson. I wish I still had it.

The boat was superb. The quality of build was excellent.

I don't know what size your boat is, but you may be a bit underpwered, with a 40.

I always go by the 75% or better, rule for powereing a boat. Just because you have that HP., doesn't mean you have to use it.

Re: Lowe sea nymph

bb

In 1993 I worked at a place where we sold Lowe fishing boats. I'm not a big fan of frog boats! (Rivit) :p (Kidding) They are just fine! I was then and still am impressed with Lowe boats!
Friend of mine bought one (10 years ago) and still loves it!
Don't know a thing about Yammies but as a new motor it should serve you just fine.
As to the power I agree with djohns19: If you bought the 1667WT you will be in great shape!
http://www.loweboats.com/FishBoats/Utility/SeaNymph/1677WT.cfm
If the 1667CC You might be a bit under powered.. but at this time it's most likely a done deal since your waiting to pick it up.. so just enjoy it! :)
http://www.loweboats.com/FishBoats/Utility/SeaNymph/1677CC.cfm

Let us know what you picked up!

Happy Boating

Link

Re: Lowe sea nymph

i myself dont think it is underpowered, the sea nymph boats are light weight. i think it will do very well. but of course if your looking to get 50mph from it, it wont happen. whats the length of the boat?
a buddy of mine has a 14ft sea nymph with a 25hp merc, it will get on plane fast and do 34mph with two people in it.

Re: Lowe sea nymph

The Lowe sea nymph is a 16'. Do ya'll really think it is under powered? My nieghbor has an old bass tracker w/a40 merc and it gose down river pretty well. Two more days and I'll get the little (frog) boat. dose anyone think it's agood size? I will mainly use it to cat fish and run my little one around. Oh the max hp on the boat is a70hp. after the 40hp is out of warrenty should I upgrade or be happy with what is on it? I'm hoping to go about 30 mp in it, dose anyone have any guesses on how fast it maybe?
thanks for the input!!

Take a kid fishing
:D bbtruck

Re: Lowe sea nymph

yea the jamse is one river i go alot . I live on the mattaponi ,which feeds the York. The mattaponi and the Rappahanoch are the two I most frequent. I won't dare take her out in to the bay. The cat fishing and bass are great in the mattaponi so that will be the river I'll be in most. The load I'll have in the lowe is myself ,the wife and my 4 yr old. Not even 1/2 the wieght max for the boat.the modle of the sea nymph is "fm165s". I may have alot of questions that may sound dumb but I'd rather ask than not know> this is my 4th boat ( first new one) . I stay up in the rivers.do you think this boat will last over 10 years? it will be kept inside. How long dose the carpets last? should I scotch guard them?

thanks for the replies!!

Bubbatruck

Re: Lowe sea nymph

if the motor is maintained and proped right and the boat is kept dry inside it will last 10yrs + those are good boats, and the yamaha is a excellent motor. good luck with it, and i hope you catch many fish with it. :D

Re: Lowe sea nymph

I had a 1991 (second owner) 16 foot Lowe Bass Jon with a 50 hp Johnson on it. More than enough power for me. The whole rig I don't think weighed 900 lbs. I miss how easy it was to launch, retrieve, and maintain. I never thought twice about taking a short trip to fish because it was always ready, and required no real work to go. It did a lot of fishing on the Pamunkey, Chickohominy and lower James. Seemed a great boat for that. I was suprised that after 10 years the rivited hull still did not leak. The only problem it was showing was some galvanic corrosion of the transom when I sold it. I asked Lowe about it and they said that was normal for these type boats when used in brakish water. Said if it ever got bad enough to leak I could weld an aluminum top skin on the outer transom.

bbtruck01:
When do you pick up your Frog Boat :) Glad to see you have a since of humor!

Just got back to this post. Didn't mean to worry ya bud. When I said a little under powered thats what I meant "A Little". Using the 75% of the rated HP which most reccomend it would only be 52 HP! Besides I really like the little 40 HP class motors.. had a 45HP prop on my 14ft sled when I bought it.. had more than enough power and after a full day of fishing.. We spent more on launching and bait than we did on gas!
Also didn't say in the last reply that I/we (wife) spent a lot of time wondering if we should sell the boat we still have and buy a LOWE, because of all the extra boat we would have!

I'm betting that catfish1 is about right on the MPH! Which is plenty fast enough.

Have fun with her (your boat) :D

Link

Re: Lowe sea nymph

This is a just for fun question:
Has nothing to do with BB's post!
I spent 14 years in the military and met people from all over the world! And the States! And been in most of the countries.. but Ive never met anyone from Virgina or West Virgina!! All of the people who worked for me were from "West (By God)" Vingina! What gives here?
Just for fun!

Link

Re: Lowe sea nymph

I got the boat yesterday and I love it. Catfish was on the money with the mph, the speedo on the boat said 31mph @51rpms with two adults & a 4yr old. It is easy to load & unload. she seems to be taking on alittle water. I think it is coming from thelive well feed line? anyone had this problem? when it cools down too much i'll take it back to the dealer. it has a couple bugs like they put the steering wheel on upside down, and acouple others I can fix my self. All in all I 'm with the boat. it has alot of room for a 16ft.

thanks,
bb bubbatruck :D :D

Re: Lowe sea nymph

FYI some new boats have water in the bilge from when they are shipped or sat at the dealer uncovered. dry it out as best you can(put tongue on 5 gallon bucket and open drain plug then use sponge) then take it out. make sure its not splashing in. if it truly leaks (let them tell you where from) don't wait to take it back. have all faults you find fixed now! or they'll try to say you abused it or something. Make sure all pedistal bases are securely mounted. I fell over in my dad's new '03 14' Sylvan this spring when they used the wrong screws at the factory (same factory as Lowe). Don't take no for an answer!

jsut my 2c
sounds like a great chioce in hp.

Re: Lowe sea nymph

I know a 75 year old man who fishes the back side of Ocracoke Island with his Sea Nymph and purely loves it. The old man works that boat and lands lots of Specks and Reds with it. I am sure your going to get some good use out of that one. Do you plan to fish the Kiptopeke State Park with it?
