how do people rate thease boats.i made the mistake of saying i was looking for a bass boat.what i want is a fishing boat that can handle larger lakes and bays.i will be using it to fish for trout in the spring,bass in the summer and to fish for blues and strippers on occasion in cape cod bay and buzzards bay as well as local harbors such as boston harbor and plymouth harbor.thanks again for your help.this will be my first boat.the tracker is a deepv17 with a 50 merc.,the lowe is a sea nymph deep v 17 with a 50 johnson.

Steve,<br /><br />Personal opinions is what you are going to get.<br /><br />I can just about assure you that the Lowe/Sea Nymph/Johnson package will hold its value MUCH better than the tracker.

I read a horror story about the tracker on one of these boating sites, but I cann't remember where. The meat of it was this guy saved and bought a tracker. The rivets leaked. The dealer offered no help, and Tracker offered no help. This is one of the things that made me buy a Lowe, but it's a pontoon not a bass boat. I wanted the room. Good luck, and search some of the older sites on the tracker. You might read the same story.<br />6x6

my father and I had a '91 sea nymph 16, with '91 evinrude VROs - a 40hp and a 9.9hp kicker, all electric start. I must say, other than some issues with the engines, it was an incredible boat. We got rid of the boat in '92, traded it back to the dealer for a '91 galaxy 22'8" (talk about 5 foot itis). <br /><br />I would not hesitate to go for the lowe/sea nymph- however if you are looking to buy new, for the same price you can look towards a used Boston Whaler montauk - a boat that simply WILL NOT depreciate as long as the condition is good. I rarely see montauks for under $8000 with older engines on them. It is in your size range and it will handle about anything you throw at it....Not trying to talk you out of the nymph tho- we loved ours.

I had a very bad experience with a BassTracker Tournament V-17. Leaked, wood rotted, cheap fittings and the detailing looked like it was done in a beginners shop class.<br /><br />For big lakes: Lund, Alumacraft, Lowe or similar quality semi-vee or deep vee is a good boat. I fish Lake Of The Woods every summer (in my 1980 Boston Whaler Montauk/Suzi DF70)and I see more 16' to 19' Lunds than all other makes combined. LOTW can get really nasty but these guys are out there every day.<br /><br />Think about what Jersey Jim says about the Montauk. It doesn't understand "depreciation".<br /><br />Good luck.

I had a 91 lowe bass john, modified V through 2001. It saw a good bit of fishing. I had to put a new powerhead on the Johnson 50 in 99. Mixed the gas and oil myself after that. Boat still stayed dry when I sold it, though was starting to show some galvanic corrosion on the transom. Lowe said that was normal if ever used in brackish water, which I did. If I had it another 10 years, I probably would have had to cap the transom. Overall it was a pretty good boat, and still looked good when I sold it.

I have a 2001 Lowe Angler 165 w 40HP Johnson.<br /><br />I think they now have lifetime hull warranty (mine was 10 years) <br /><br />No regrets on buying a Lowe.

Steve, the newer Trackers are supposed to be a lot better, but they needed to be, cause the ones from about 2000 back had too much wood in them(spelled rotten), and the rivets loosened up and they leaked. The flat bottoms rode like a dump truck, but if you are going to put this boat where you say you are, you should not even consider one of these. Lowes are pretty tough and well made. I've been to the factory and they weld them pretty throughly.If you can find a Lund for a reasonable price, it's a good boat also. Good Luck
