Lower Case Oil Change

I am planning on changing the gear case oil in the lower of my 06 15hp. In the manual it shows the engine mounted vertically on a stand and oil being fed into it by some form of hand pump. Is this a specialized tool or can the case be refilled with the motor laid on its side and a pre-measured amount just poured in?

Thanks

Re: Lower Case Oil Change

You can also get marine gear oil in containers that have a spout you cut off with a knife, and fit that spout into the lower plug hole. Then squeeze the bottle till oil runs out the top plug.
Replace the top plug, and this will create a suction where you can then remove the container and install the lower plug. This is done with the motor in vertical position.
Always use new washers on the plugs.

with the engine on a stand fill from the lower drain hole when the case is full all air will be forced out of the top hole. quickly remove pump and put the drain (lower) screw with a new gasket back on bottom of case then put the upper fill screw back in with a new gasket
