lower leg oil on a omc 800

I have a 1980 OMC 800 leg, I used 'type c' gear oil in the lower leg. I was since told that oil was for electric shift, I do not believe I have electric shift. is it still ok to use that style oil or should i drain it and use reg gear oil?

Fine to use that oil, but not necessary. '80 should be mechanical shift, so I think you can use 80W90 in your outdrive.
