So I finally decided to bite the bullet an change the celebrated lower mount on my engine, the bungee cord was going strong but I wanted to make it right. All in all it was painless procedure I broke 1 bolt an it was in the mount that was being swapped out so no big deal. The problem came when I went to install new mount the surface that mounts to the lower leg was wider then the original mount. So I broke out the dermel an made the slots deeper so I could get bolted up. I hope this mount does not seperate like the old one anytime soon. I have noticed most force motors I see have seperated lower mounts.

You somehow received a lower motor mount for the older 2 piece lower unit. It is OK to make it fit by enlarging the slots. These motor mounts do tend to separate with age and hitting objects. They can be reinforced with a couple of stainless 3/8 flathead screws. Drill 5/16 through the motor mount on either side of the center. Countersink the fat plate to clear the screw head and go deep enough so that the head is recessed about 1/8 to 3/16 inch. Tap the fat plate to 3/8 X 16 and drill the skinny plate to clear the 3/8 bolt. screw the two bolts in just snug--you do not want to compress the rubber. Grind off any excess thread sticking out from the skinny plate and stake the bolt in 3 or 4 places so it will not unscrew.
