I have a 1999 Yamaha Vmax P150TLRX, carburated on a 18.5 Skeeter. Normally not in a big hurry to get any where so I cruise around 3500 to 4000 RPM . Boat planes good and rides well. 2 guys around here have told me if I don't run this engine harder, 5000 plus I am going to do long term damage.
Is there any truth to this ?

Thanks for your input.

If you are cruising at part throttle you are doing no harm. There are guys around anywhere who are sure of incorrect info or explain truth poorly.

You do need to get 5,000+ at WOT, but do no harm, IMO, cruising at part throttle.

I would suggest going to WOT now and then, just to verify that you are correctly propped on a healthy engine.

I do open it up once in awhile. If not loaded to heavy it will turn around 5700 WOT
