didn't look too close to the routing of the old cable so if someone with a boat like mine wants to chime in on the proper routing of the outer cable it would help. I have enough cable and with a few turns it can end up where it is supposed to be so I may be ok.

You want it to make the smoothest turns possible so it never kinks and so there's no wear on the outer cable jacket. You also need to make sure it won't interfere with the steering, won't be too near the exhaust and won't touch anything it could hurt. Keep in mind it turns and pivots (a little) with the drive, so you need to leave enough room inside the shift cable bellows for that to be able to happen. On my Alpha this means through the transom and then one loop or bend before getting to the upper shift link.
Follow the instructions to the letter. In fact if you realize that you did something wrong go back and make it right. Don't ask me how I know, just don't be dumb like I was!

these are kinda old pics. i believe them to be my original shift cable prior to me replacing it.

shift cable disconnected from the shift plate

i assume the one i got my hand on is the shift cable, going behind the riser bellows

heading off towards the gimble housing. there is a clip that is just visible on the cover for the flywheel, right above the red part of the bilge pump. the cable snaps into this.

those pic help alot. it comes from the tansom and under the engine and curves around to the shift plate. Thanks

got it routed and hooked up, can't adjust it till the drive is installed.
