I have a 1972 mercruiser 888 (ford 302). Two years ago I replaced the upper and lower thermostat housings. Like an idiot I torqued the bolts down too much after installing a new thermostat. The old lower housing had a 5/8" brass insert where the waterline comes in from the lower unit. The new one did not. I was unable to get the old one out so I used a couple of fitting to increase the size to fit new lower housing. I think it was 1 1/4" or 1 1/2". Tired of looking at mess of fittings and would like to know if I can purchase new brass insert and where, to eliminate the multitude of fittings. The boat temperature has run normal (lower area of green) even with these fittings. Thanks for any help you guys can give me. Tim
