2-stroke 25hp 2-cylinder 1997 Johnson, long shaft.
I was boating down the river wide open (20mph) in the channel (14 feet) and hit what must have been a submerged, free-floating log. I know it was a log because a bunch of bark floated up
. Anyway, I immediately put it into idle after hitting the log. After I realized what happened, I decided to slowly try to open up the throttle to see what would happen. At idle it seemed fine but as I accelerated it would act like it had slipped out of gear, pretty consistently.
This kept happening until I killed the motor so I could visually inspect it (no visual problems) and then started it again, and it worked just fine after that. Kept working for 20 minutes of testing it.
I know different engines have various approaches for handling the prop hitting things. I'm guessing that it slipped out of gear and never was able to fully engage until the motor had stopped, at which point everything returned to normal. But I wanted to see what you guys thought before I take it on a weekend trip and get stranded.
Does this sound like expected behavior, or do you think maybe I have a lower unit issue?
