Hi, folks, new member here. I joined to get your input on this question:

What is the best sealant to use for the threads on the control shaft? The shaft is metal.

I have been told that teflon tape and/or pipe dope won't work because they will melt.
My application is a motorguide 36v motor being used as the propulsion unit in a swim spa.
What should I use?
Thanks in advance.

Welcome aboard.

Why would Teflon tape or pipe dope melt?

There must be more to this because swim spas are super duper hot tubs with megasize jets and water movers;

"I've been told" by an electric motor repair guy that the heat from the motor would melt them.
He told me to use Loctite RED, but I know I'll have to do this again someday, so I don't want something permanent like that if I can avoid it.
