Lower unit drain plug o rings?

I have a 1981 mercury 80 hp i just recently drained and refilled the lower unit. When i removed the drain and vent screws i noticed there were not any o rings on them. Do i need to put o rings on them or just put them back in there the way they were?

on my 79 80 hp there were washers on the plugs. When you drained it did it have water in it? You sure that the washers didnt stay on the lower unit or fall in the drain pan?

Yes you will definitely need them. What is the s/n of your engine and I'll get you the parts listing.

After further inspection i fond out they stayed on the lower unit. I did go to my local marine dealer and buy new ones and put on it.
