Hey guys

Still turning wrenches on a gamefisher 5HP and need to know if this oil seal is going to be hard to get out and to put a new one back in?

Lower unit oil had water in it and Im tryin to replace seals that can let water in. This one had oil on top of it when I got the bottom water pump late off. Had to clean it up for the pic.

How can I get the old seal out and get a new one in the right way?

Thanks,
DamianJP

I usally punch a hole on each side of the seal and insert screws to pry up against, sounds cruder than it really is but it works well for me.... there is also a tool called a seal extractor, parts store may have one,

Is it easy to "LIGHTLY" punch it down evenly to install? Or how do you install it?

Thanks,

You'll want to thoroughly clean the drive shaft. I used a wire wheel in a drill to get most of the roughness off of it, then used some 250 grit emery to hand clean the rest. Those scotchbrite pads for dishes are also good. Then I just had some aluminum tubing laying around, and dropped it down on the drive shaft, on top of the seal. If you have a flat washer to drop on top of the seal first, you can help avoid damage from your tubing, or socket, or whatever.
