lower unit fitment

i have a 78 115 lower unit from a parts motor seems to be good i put impeller in it my boat with motor im using is j140tlcte 83 model itook the lower off it and brought home to change impeller i thought i would put the 78 on my boat to test it out do you see any problem with doing that (the 78 round part where the gears are is longer than the 83 ) thanks for any help:joyous:

Should be no problem if shift rods are the same.

funny you should say that the 78 was longer and i adjusted it down is that ok thank you for your help

You need to make 100% sure you understand the concept of " setting the shift rod height " failure to read up on that will cause you shifting and BIG $$$ issues.

i do have a factory service on my 83 i will read up on it and if i dont understand it i will not put it on my 83 thank you very much as i dont want to mess up :doh:
