lower unit from 50hp to 85hp johnson?

85hp is 71 model and 50hp is 70s..
i dont have all the info ..was just curious if anyone knows ..if a lower unit from a 50hp fit a 85hp johnson ..i have both motors here, lower units look the same!!

The 1971 85hp is a hydro-electric, the 50hp in 71 and 72 was also hydro electric, but in 73 till 77/78 both engine were hydro mechanical shift. Drive shafts might have different splines making them non interchagable. Even if they were swappable, the gear ratios are way different,

Will not swap. Completely different units, not matter the years...
