Lower Unit Gears chipped

The lower unit on my suzuki DF 140 had contact with hard bottom and ended up chipping three teeth on the pinion and gear set. Does anyone know if you would normally go ahead and replace the bearing also because of this metal floating around. The mechanic was not going to.

Thanks

Seems like it would make good sense to change the bearings while you're in there because of possible damage from metal particles....why the mechanic doesn't want to? Of course the bearings may not be damaged and you may be fine without replaceing them, but I would do it just to be sure. New bearings maybe a $200? Good Luck!

Just like wheel bearings on your car , you can inspect them to see if the rollers or outer race has any problems. Just can not see the inner race
