OK guys it's a 2000 merc 175 EFI,just did my first water pump and all went well until I sliped the unit back on and now I can't get the splines to match up. It comes to a dead stop with about 2in to go! I pulled the unit while in drive! I hope thats the right thing to do? Any tricks to get this thing back together?

Get someone to help you if you haven't already. Can be a bit tricky getting everything in line while trying to hold the unit up as well.
Wriggle the prop as you are pushing it on - you will know when the upper shaft splines have engaged. Make sure the water pickup tube is not stuck and the exhaust tube is in place.
It can take a bit of rocking around to get them on!

Don't forget to put anti-seize compound on the splines and bolts etc - makes it a breeze next time the leg needs to come off.

Good luck and keep trying. Puting the prop back on did the trick, first try slide right on. One thing I have a 1 1/4 or so stainless washer left over, where does it go OPPS
? Took it for a lake test and it has never had more psi then now. Idle it shows 7psi,half throttle 3000rpm's it reads 14psi and at full throttle it read 18psi. Are these good readings? 2000 merc 175EFI ON A 882 NITRO! GPS top speed 67mph.

now that ya giot water pressure keep a check on the pressure control diaphram. they wear out and leak and spray water inside the cowl. I reccomend replacing them every 2 years just like the t-stats and pump.
