Lower unit help!

Welp I'm in need of a lower unit. I have a 557hc. What other hp's can i use? 35-60 horses work as well right? One more question, how do i drop the unit? Looks simple, but is the shaft connected or slide in?

I took a LU off a '67 35hp and put it on my '70 55hp. Fit perfectly. First, take off motor leg covers. Loosen and disconnect linkage connector. Take a picture of it before you disconnect. Remove the 4 mount bolts-nuts. And voila, it should drop. Try EBAY, there are at least 2 up for bids now. I'm bidding on one of them.

Some 55 and 60hp gearcases will not work...to identify these...they came with Mag 2 ignition, and have a thicker Propshaft Brg carrier.<br /><br />TMD

Thanks to all. I'll be bidding. Also I have become a master at tuning these things up as of late. Amazing what you can do by trying right.

Erm...forgot to mention one thing in my reply.<br /><br />Depending on the year of engine that the gearcase comes from you may need the upper housing aswell as the lower housing.<br /><br />Sorry I did not mention that sooner...I was thinking it...just did not type it. <br /><br />TMD
