Lower Unit Installation 72 Johnson 125hp

HELP!!!<br />Anyone,<br /><br />I am looking for any suggestions on reinstalling the lower unit on the engine in the topic. I have checked the impeller and water pump and it is in perfect shape and I am looking to reinstall the lower unit but I get it within 6 inches and it does not go any further. I am not sure if it if the water tubes or the driveshaft being turned to match the splines which I have tried???? HELP!!!!! Any help is greatly appreciated. <br /><br />Lostboater72 in Sacramento

I don't know anything about your motor but...<br /><br />It seems like 6 inches of separation is a bit far for it to start binding on water tubes, doesn't it? What I would do is get it up as far as you can, then put a crate or a log under it to hold it in place and check everything with a flashlight and a little mirror. Make sure it's lined up and not binding... Did you remember to grease the splines on the driveshaft?<br /><br />Remember when it was coming off you had the weight of the gearcase working with you, but now it's working against you! It might just need a little shove or a wiggle, and those splines will need to be lined up in any case.
