Well, the grease purge worked really well. We finally couldn't see any more of the blue grease and it is totally packed with Mercruiser Gimbel bearing grease.

I did have one question upon reassembly. I painstakedly followed the instructions in my manual. Cleaned surfaces, used bellows adhesive (don't know if this is really necessary), etc. When I finally stabbed the lower unit the check valve for drive fluid depressed and soaked a side of the lower unit fiber gasket. After all that da#$ cleaning. I went ahead and torqued the lower unit to the bell housing. Will the drive lube inhibit a seal in any way? I wouldn't think so, but I want to make sure.

A final question, is there any way what-so-ever to tell if I have drive to bell housing integrity prior to dropping her in the water?
