Lower unit leaking from behind prop '86 25hp merc

at first i thought is was leftover from decarbonization. but i think it's coming from behind the prop. what is the difficulty in replacing that seal. any tricks i should know before attempting? any speacial tools? does anyone have the procedure handy? Thanks

Hmmm is it exhaust for a thru prop exhaust? Prop seal is not hard if you have the proper tools. If you don't, it's nearly impossible. Check the lowering to see if its full or has water before you start trying to remove the bearing carrier.

what do you mix your fuel at and what oil are you using? could just be unburnt oil coming down the exhaust. I have seen many people mistake that as a leaking seal then replace the seal only to find it is still happening.

Yup and all older 2strokes do it.

Gear oil stinks to high heaven. I usually smell the stuff long before it leaks enough to leave spots on the floor. Unburnt 2 stroke oil smells like air freshner in comparision
