I have a 1995 erude 88spl,i have had it at the shop twice now for this leak.first time they pressure tested it and replaced the propshaft seal.i checked the LU grease just for peace of mind after about a month only to find it was still getting water in the LU.

took it back and they checked it again and said when they put it in and out of gear the shift rod seal was leaking, replaced it free of charge since they didn't find it the first time.couple weeks into boating i checked again and it has water in the LU again............this time when i took the boat out i could see grease coming out of the prop, pulled the drain screw and got only about a quart of liquid.half grease and half water.

Any idea what may be causing this?it has been preasure tested and vacume tested twice now and they say its good to go,but after i use it,i find it to still be leaking.

the shop i took it to is willing to look at it free of charge and also fix it for free since they didn't get it right but i'm having second thoughts bout taking it to them a third time.

Did anyone change the fill/drain plug seals? Everyone forgets.

Re: lower unit leaking

they had to disassemble the lower unit to replace the shift shaft seal why in the he77 didnt they just replace all the seals and be done with it. When I find a leaky gearcase my customers always ask me which seal is it. I always tell them all of them. I also replace the watewr pump or at least the impeller. It cost the same labor wise and the seals are cheap. Id take it back to them and tell them to do it right,
