Lower Unit Linkage for 1977 Evinrude 85hp 85799S ..need to remove lower unit

I am wanting to replace the waterpump on my 1977 Evinrude 85HP.

I have removed the 5 bottom screws but the linkage is holding it from releasing.

Where is the linkage located and what should I watch out for. Any suggestions would help.

Would it be the same as the attached? This was the instructions for a 1977 115hp.

You got it. It's a pain but you can do it. I was able to do mine and you don't have to remove the carbs.

I removed the cables and unscrewed the bolt about 1/2 inch, put some putty on the arms to keep apart. Easily done. (see attached)

Now I have replaced the impeller. How do I get the rod back through the hole?

Also there was a plastic tubing about 3-4 inches long. There was only one, should there be two and is it required?
