I have a lower drive section that has the preloaded pin. It looks like the alpha 1 did away with that. I am looking at buying an alpha upper half. My research says the 2 go together but what happens with the fact that I have the preloaded pin on my lower section.

Thanks for all the help

The early MR's had a pre-load pin which wasn't needed because of the gears being cut opposite. Anyway, some later upper drive shafts are hollow, Either way the pin isn't needed. If you want. put a vise grip on it and get it and the spring out.

Oh yeah, the MR designation was the name given to the Alpha before they changed the name. They are the same units.

As long as you are not running a lot of power, that pin is what preloads your bearing.
