what is the capacity of gear oil? does anyone know? please get back to me asap.... thanks

I think my manual says 22 ounces (Merc 150 XR-2), but I changed mine last weekend and it took just a bit over 16 when it started to come out the vent hole...just buy the pump attachment at BoatUS or a Merc dealer, but the 32-oz bottle of Quicksilver lower unit lube, and keep pumping it in from the lower hole 'til it comes out the upper, then give the air a minute to escape, pump a little more oil in slowly, and when it comes out the upper again you're full. If you chose not to purchase the pump buy twice as much as recomended...

Thanks. I changed the oil without using a pump - thanks for the advice re: the pump. I can see why you need one. I found the manual and you are right - it uses 22.1 oz. I appreciate the information.

I was looking through my big Mercury manual last night and under lower unit gear lube change it said tp\o let about an ounce of lube to run out after full to allow for expansion!? First Id heard that one!<br /><br />Hasbeen
