I'm trying to replace the oil in the lower unit of my 1971 Evinrude TwinSki 40. I have one of these pump mechanisms for the job;

however, neither of the fittings supplied is small enough to fit the lower hole on my motor. I tried using one of the plastic squeeze bottles of oil with the tapered top that you jam into the hole and squeeze; however, I spilled a lot but did not fill the lower unit. Is there an adapter that would go on my pump and fit into the lower unit?

You aren't going to like what I'm about to say. You took the Phillips screw out, didn't you? That is the shifter fork pivot pin, not the oil plug. Now comes the fun of trying to get it back in.

Hunker down and look at the bottom of the nose cone and you will see the oil plug.

Good luck,

I have one of those pumps and it should fit.. I misplaced the omc fitting... I just hold the yellow plastic part in the fill hole and the other fits my mercury and I think yamaha... So F_R is probably right in saying you took out the pivot pin.... The vent and fill holes should be slotted screws..

Thanks guys. I didn't have any problem putting the shifter fork pin back in, but do have a question. I did try to put the oil in that hole. Will that hurt anything?

Won't hurt a thing. This might be your lucky day.
