I have a 1971 50hp with electric shift which still works well.
I have used standard-fare 80w90 marine gear lube in it for 9 years or more. I just found out that Johnson makes a special oil for those electric shift motors, so I plan to change it out.
Question: should I just change the oil like normal, or, should I try to flush out the lower by filling it with light-weight car oil, run lightly on the hose for a short time, drain, and then refill with the Johnson oil? (This has been recommended to me, but I wanted to ask around first.)
Thanks for your opinions.....
Richard
