Sandspike....what color is the drippings? If it's black and thick and smells bad, might just be unburnt oil from the exhaust tube. If it looks like gear lube, could be the prop shaft seals. If you fish a lot, pull the prop and look for fishing line around the shaft behind the prop thrust bushing.

You can change the seals with out droppin the lower unit. You'll just need to pull the bearing carrier out so you can get to the seals.

thanks obj, yea it is gear oil. cant mistake that smell. got that black stuff to but they are not the same. a buddy of mine told me to run it for awhile and that it would make it easer to pull the bearing carrier out. he said to just change oil every trip. but i dont want it to get any worse.

Yea do it right and don't worry. If it was me, I'd just do all the seals.

Can't remember right off hand if there is a seal kit for your engine. I looked in iboats store but they did not list one for your specific model.

If you just do the bearing carrier, here's the seals and part numbers.

Prop shaft seal....PN 330137...need 2
Bearing carrier Oring..PN 313446....need 1
Seal Orings for the four screws that hold the carrier in...PN 317178....need 4
