Lower unit oil. Wrong?

Dropped off my boat with a buddy who does frequent lubes and oil changes on about everything.
He said he'd change the lube on the lower unit of my 72 mercruiser 165 i/o.

I came back to find (instead) of pennzoil marine gear lube, he used pennzoil marine premium plus outboard oil.
Will this be ok, or does it need to be changed asap to a marine gear lube?

I'm assuming the pennzoil marine PPOB oil is actually engine oil.

Dump the oil and put outboard lower unit "lube" in it. You can buy Pennzoil L/U Lube at Walmart for $5.26 per quart.

I bought a generic pump for the job, and it's just a little 15 minute job if you have the boat on a trailer. Using the pump, you can drain all 32 oz. out of the bottle, and one bottle will usually do the job.

There's no such thing as "Marine Gear Lube" .............. no standard exists......plenty of manufacturers claim to make "Marine" gear lubricant though (their claim)

Just drain the drive, and refill it correctly.........make sure that you use the correct hypoid "GEAR" lubricant.

I would use Mercury High performance gear lubricant or equivalent.
