Lower unit oil

I'm I reading the manual correctly? It states to use same oil as engine, 10w-40 for a 280 lower unit. True?

Not an expert, but that sounds odd to me. Mine requires GL 5 synthetic gear oil.

I would go by what your manual says. I checked and it looks like that is correct as long as you don't have a DP drive.

Yup, correct for most (all of) the "red" engines with 270, 280, 290 or SP outdrives: Same oil as in the engine.
Personally, I think it makes it easy. An for those who have noticed, same oil in the trim pump/cylinders as well.

This guy on the operating table needs blood what should we use. From across the room, use O Positive, that's what I have. :rolleyes: :facepalm:

I'm sure glad some of you guys don't work in a hospital. It would sound like this.

Thanks Don, this forum and you have provided me with much info that will help me prevent future problems, such as the oil.
