Lower Unit Oil

Bought A 1986 Johnson 60 HP changed the LU,oil the oil was thick and very black.Would it be a good idea too flush it with something ? If so what would be the best stuff to use .

Just run it with the new oil for about 5 hrs and change it again. You should be okay as long as there was no water in it.

You should have the lower unit pressure and vacuum tested to check out the condition of the seals. They're often a $300 repair item. It's a job for a qualified marine mechanic. They could also tell you the condition of the bearings, gears, etc.

You should be just fine, i just changed out the lu oil on a motor(83' 7.5hp evinrude) I just bought and the oil was pitch-black, heavy, but no water or metal. Shifts&runs fine!
