I have a 94 Bryant with a Mercuriser 6cyl. The motor is in very good condition. Here is what happen. I was driven down the lake and it felt like the prop was slipping, and I lost forward motion in the boat.

I turned the motor off, and check the prop. There was noting on the prop. I started the motor and put the boat in forward, the prop does not turn. I tried reverse, still not movement. When I place the boat in forward, the prop will not turn backwards, and I do hear a click when it is turning the correct way. (I believe that is the way it should work.)

I also don't feel the the lower unit go into gear. Like It use too.

Can someone tell me where to start looking next?

Thanks for your help !!

May be a shift cable. You should be able to hear if it is trying to engage into gear when you shift to fwd or reverse.Try lowering the drive all the way and try and then all the way up and try again.Charlie

Drain a little oil. Look for shavings or 'metallic paint' type appearance. You can also pop the top cap and look at the gears up there. To check the prop, take the nut off, using a magic marker or something waterproof, mark the prop/hub, put it back on, throttle it up, on the water under load, take it off again and see of the line moved. If it did, you need a new hub pressed in.
