Re: lower unit pressure test?

Yes. drain the lower unit. Before discarding the old lube, run your finger thru it,and feel for chips, larger than a grain of sand. If you feel any, the gears and/or shafts are damaged.
Lower unit hold a very small volume of lube, and therefor, hold a very small amount of air.

Get an airtight connection to the vent or fill screw. Use an air gauge so you know how the pressure in the lower unit.
Submerge the L/U past the intake in a large garbage can (prefeably with a drain in it.Pressurize in VERY SHORT bursts, while observing a pressure gauge.
No more than 10lbs of air.
Look for the bubbles.
Bubbles out of the water intake= leaking drive shaft seal.
Bubbles out of the prop= prop seals
No bubbles? Observe the gauge. It should hold,or fall very slowly (like 2 or 3 hours),but not below, say 5lbs. No bubbles or pressure-drop, you had a bad seal on either the vent or fill screws.

------------------
I'm no expert, but I DID sleep at a Holiday Inn last night!
