Lower Unit Question For a 1985 50 hp Merc

Is a 78-80 50 hp merc 3 cyl lower unit compatible with my 85 50 hp 4 cyl engine im trying to figure this out before i take mine in for repairs if it does i would buy this engine for the lower unit mine has went bad and i can replace that myself so cn anyone tell me if they can be swapped out with out causing any trouble

1978-80 50 hp sn is 4074870 the 1985 motor I took to the shop today but im still interested in knowing if it is compatible

4074870 is not making any sense to me as a 1978-80 three cylinder. As you are asking whether the LUs are compatible. I need the s/ns of both to confirm the year of each engine.

4074870 looks like a 4 cylinder s/n.
