I have another question (dont hate...LOL...I am new to this stuff!!):

-Yesterday I was changing my lower end unit, and I noticed it was VERY MILKY (water in the oil). I hasnt been changed since last march. What would cause water to get in my lower unit, and how can I fix it?? I did notice that the bottom screw was a little loose(did not take too much pressure to take it off).......IDK what to do. Also do you think i messed something up in my lower unit by having water in it. I has ran fine the last few times i took it out! PLEASE TELL ME WHAT TO DO!!

*I have a 1996 Force, 75HP......................

Re: Lower Unit Question!!!!!!!

put new gaskets on the drain and vent screws, fill with new gear oil, run it a few times.

If it gets milky again, then you need to replace the seals around the driveshaft, shift rod, and possibly the prop shaft.

Re: Lower Unit Question!!!!!!!

And don't worry too much about the inside of the lower unit. Marine gear oils have anti-corrosion additives which bind up free oxygen--so even if you have free water in the gearcase, as long as it remains closed, the steel parts won't rust with a good amount of gear oil present.

The oil is an extreme pressure oil so even with entrained water, it will do its job; you will not have damaged the gears.
