Been on here alot, this place is a WEALTH of information. My new question is, my 98' merc 25hp, 2-stroke makes a little knock, knock noise when shifting into forward. Give it a little gas and it stops, runs great, shifts great besides that. It's not a fast nock, like once a second in dead idle, increase idle any and it stops. Background is, I was idling around, going from forward to neutral to reverse alot. Then it started. Gave it a little gas and it would stop. Went ahead and drove it back to the ramp (about 4 miles), not a single problem running wise. Took it back out a few days ago, same thing. Prop shaft isnt slipping, grips and takes off great. In R and F. I changed to lower unit oil, it was clean....had the classic small amount of metal residue on the magnet, but no shavings. Maybe needs to adjusted? Any thoughts will be appreciated. THANKS.

Re: Lower Unit Question

The prop nut was the very first thing I checked. I was running a aluminum prop at the time and even went back to my Pro-pulse composite, still does it. Other than that noise it shifts and runs great. Has me puzzled. I searched the forums and I found nothing that can relate to this problem.
