Motor 1986 Force 85HP model#856X6L Ser#2768

Seloc book shows there were several Lower Units put on the Force motors this year.
Q: Can anyone tell me what lower unit I have? (there are six mounting bolts)

I also have one bolt that will not break free. Any ideas on how to get it free? I don't want to snap the bolt off in the lower unit.

I am attempting to replace water pump/Impeller for the first time any advise/tips would be great.

Thanks for the help.

Re: Lower Unit Removal and Impeller Issue

There were 2 different units for that year.A long shaft and a short shaft 25 and 20 inch.
What bolt won't come out? Salt or fresh water? The bolts toward the back can be heated if needed.
One of the six?Start spraying with PB Blaster. The start tapping(with hammer and punch).Spray and tap/Let set then more. Then a 1/2 in socket turn it in and out just a bit!!!
Then more spray and tap/tap/tap.The tapping loosens the corrosion on the threads.
The lower unit housing will corrode and sieze the bolts.
If it's a bolt toward the back it can be heated but not a lot.J
