Lower unit replacement

Lower Unit went out on 1974 Searay SRV200, 225 hp mercruiser V8 5.0L 305, I just would like to know some options of replacing this unit. I've done a little looking around and how do I know if the LU needs to have the counter rotation on it or not. Or is that just a selling gimmick, whats the difference between that and a standard LU?

I believe counter rotation is for boats that have twins, one is standard and other is counter.

SEI makes aftermarket outdrives compatable with Mercruiser complete with 3-year warranty, around $1,200.00 for brand new. They are sold many vendors online as well as here at iboats under mercruiser drive assemblies at the top of this forum. The older outdrives utilized a shorter yoke than the Alpha 1 gen 1, I think they are similar except for that. The SEI can be ordered both ways.
